At this stage, I was still in the experimental phase of trying to figure out how to configure and just make Shin sound decent. Without an English patch, and few guides available at the time, I missed out on some important tuning tools like A la carte/OMAKASE. I think I had a lot of trouble trying to untangle envelopes after the resampler had its way with them as well. Don't even get me started on trying to mix the vocals with the instrumentals... Listening to it now, the song selection is a nostalgic reflection of my jpop/vocaloid tastes from when I was just entering high school. I was pretty big into Nico Nico Douga, especially Kumikyoku which got me into The iDOLM@STER in the first place, and I was just discovering Miku and Teto. Hence, the two iM@S covers to start. Fun fact: I actually had attempted to cover a few songs before Shin had a proper oto.ini: Go My Way! (iM@S), Super Driver (The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya OP2), Romeo and Cinderella (doriko), and Airman ga Taosenai. There are a couple of videos posted on YouTube, but I probably won't be posting them here anytime soon. (I may have played one on the aux cable on the morning car ride to school and got laughed at, so... /shrug) I actually forgot about the cover I did for samfree's Shin Shin/Luka Luka★Night Fever until I was going through the old archives. Since it was around this time that I had released it, I ended up adding it to this compilation. Ura-Omote Lovers was more of a tempo test, and Meltdown helped served as a pitch test. Overall, I think the covers are decent enough, if not rough and in need of some editing here and there (Massugu and Mahou o Kakete! specifically...). I covered DRIVE TO THE MOON after hearing the Kenta Chikune cover and thought it sounded awesome so of course, I had to follow suit. I think this is one of the covers that you can hear Shin's "ue" recording flaw, where I accidentally saved Defoko's "ue" sample over my own during recording. (I had no idea what I was doing, so I just sang over Defoko's samples, muted hers, and then exported.) |
